Turning Points

This week, in the 7th week of our series called King's Cross: The Story of the World in the Life of Jesus, there is a major turning point in the narrative of Jesus' ministry. As Tim Keller puts it in his book, King's Cross: Chapter 8 of Mark's gospel is a pivotal chapter. It is the climax of the first act, in which the disciples finally begin to see the true identity of the one they have been following. In it Jesus says two things: I'm a King, but a King going to a cross; and If you want to follow me, you've got to come to the cross too. Jesus tells the disciples plainly that he will have to suffer, die and be raised, and anyone who wishes to follow him must deny himself and take up his cross. This passage will challenge us to consider what our basis is for following Jesus and what it means to pick up our cross. As always, bring your Bibles this Sunday!
